The Workshop

Introduction

The Tipping Point Workshop is an acclaimed learning workshop that helps change leaders, change makers and change agents to achieve results more effectively, more efficiently and more quickly.

Also known as the ‘Change, Dialogue and Action Workshop’, it achieves highly effective learning in an engaging, action-based way. The workshop also respects and draws upon participants’ knowledge and experiences whilst encouraging them to take a fresh look at what works, what doesn’t and why.

Key Features

  • Gamification The  Workshop is a leading example of the power of gamification – if we can make learning a fun, challenging, collaborative experience, participants will learn more and do more with what they have learned. The ingenious Tipping Point computer simulation lies at the heart of the Workshop. It presents a holistic framework for implementing change and provides a powerful experiential learning opportunity as participants use the simulation to test-out different change strategies in a safe learning environment.
  • In Person and Virtual DeliveryThe Tipping Point Workshop has recently been updated to support both in person and virtual delivery. The ‘Workbooks’ are available in hardcopy or as ‘fillable pdfs’, and the Tipping Point simulation is compatible with videoconferencing software including MS Teams, Zoom and others.
  • Tailored programmesTime For Change can arrange delivery of this great learning experience for small or large groups. We can deliver the training ourselves or put you in touch with experienced and accredited facilitators who will be happy to develop tailored programmes based around the Tipping Point materials.
  • Facilitator TrainingWe can also train and accredit you or your colleagues as workshop facilitators so that you can add the Tipping Point Workshop to your toolkit. The training includes access to all of the materials combined with guidance on running workshops so you can run your own in-house programmes. Learning to run workshops in-house offers the most cost effective way of delivering the training to large populations and allows you to include the Tipping Point model and tools within your change or leadership development programmes. This has the benefit of allowing you to build up a shared understanding and way of thinking about change within your organisation.
  • Consultant Accreditation – We can also train consultants and independent practitioners in the Tipping Point model, simulation and workshop. This allows us to accredit you to build the Tipping Point methodology into your own workshops, and include it as an additional feature of your leadership and change management offerings.

Who should attend a Tipping Point Workshop?

The workshop has been designed to be useful and engaging to leaders of all levels. The obvious people to invite would be senior leaders whose sponsorship, attitudes and involvement is vital in the implementation of change initiatives. Helping your management team to fully understand the seven levers of change and their effects, alone and more importantly in combination, can help them to more effectively shape and support future changes.

The workshop has also been designed to support those involved in hands-on planning, implementing and leading of change to do these tings in an informed and considered way. This might include HR or Change or Programme Management specialists. These people’s attitudes and decisions will make or break your organisation’s efforts to change. The workshop will specifically help them to:

  • Understand why a frighteningly-high proportion of change initiatives fail
  • Recognise which commonly-used approaches tend to multiply the costs of change projects
  • Learn to avoid interventions that are ineffective or even counter-productive
  • Identify the actions that will create the right environment for ideas and change to flourish

A third group of people who often find the Tipping Point workshop useful are operational-level change leaders, change agents or line managers. Developing understanding of change deeper within an organisation can transform its ability to deliver change successfully, on-time and within budget. When everyone within and organisation is viewing and understanding change in a common way then this supports real agility.

The Tipping Point Workshop helped me think in terms of the elements involved in change and in making change.

The workshop experience

The workshop is highly engaging, interactive and participative. This is key to its success as a learning opportunity. Working in small teams, participants design their approach to an organisational change by operating 7 “levers of change” in carefully-selected scenarios.

The simulation is hard to please, it is based on the best change theories and the hard-won experience of that rare breed – people and organisations who have really mastered change. What will it make of your strategy? Will it chew it up and spit it out? Will it show it to be like so many real change projects in real organisations – slow, over-budget and ultimately unsuccessful? Or will your approach knock spots off those of the other small teams in your workshop?

Whichever way it goes, there will be some profound learning on offer – learning which can help your key people to plan and implement better, faster, less expensive and more successful changes from now on.

The Change, Dialogue, and Action workshop is experiential and interactive. Teams have been known to spontaneously stand up and cheer as their strategy unfolds in the simulation. Participants debate vigorously during the simulation runs about trade‐offs and costs. After using the simulation, participants can immediately apply what they have learned to a current change initiative facing their organisation, and make real progress – in real time.

What to expect

Participants attending a Tipping Point workshop should expect:

  • An overview of the Tipping Point theory, and the seven levers of change
  • Experimentation with the factors that affect change, using an interactive computer simulator
  • Focused dialogue with teammates to create a shared and common vision of how to implement a change
  • Practical knowledge to make your organisational change both contagious and sustainable
  • To have some fun while gaining some valuable insights

The Tipping Point Workshop helped me see the factors impacting organisational changes from within an organisational structure.
